The Structure and Composition of Grapes

Grapes are part of the berry family, being round to oblong in shape and containing up to four seeds. They do not need pollinators do to the fact they are self-fruitful. You may be more familiar with the concord grape also recognized as the American bunch grapes. For wine, there is a separate European grape identified simply as the wine grape. 

The grapes themselves are very favorable to our health and have an abundant number of benefits and uses. The main benefit is the moisturizing and nourishing properties coming from the grape seed oil. Grape seed oil helps strengthen tissue cells and aids in skin penetration to preserve natural skin moisture.

Consuming wine has health benefits as well. The French have set themselves apart for having a low incident of heart disease. This trend has been named the French Paradox. It is said that their regularity of drinking red wines have help to protect the trend. Polyphenols that primarily reside in the skin of grapes help to reduce susceptibility to vascular damage and decreases activity of angiotensin, helping to maintain blood pressure. Grape phytochemicals such as resveratrol have been found to help hinder degenerative nerve disease, viral infections, cancer, and many more health related issues.  

Also, a helpful hint is red wines offer a greater variety of health benefits compared to white in the sense that only red wines are fermented with the skins.
